University of Maryland - Building 7

Swirnow Structures LLC and its independent affiliates report that construction has begun on Building 7 of the University of Maryland 's South Campus Commons, marking the seventh time the Hambro® Composite Floor System has been used on the College Park Campus.

Scheduled to open in January 2010, Building 7 will house 368 residents in apartments similar to those in Buildings 5 and 6. Says John C. Stahl, Swirnow's Vice President of Sales, "Building 7 will have attributes to make it environmentally friendly. The project team is pursuing LEED Silver Certification, and of course Hambro is an environmentally friendly product that will contribute points toward the LEED Certification. As more and more builders are demanding "green" products, we're happy to say that Hambro® is a proven choice."

The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company of Baltimore , Maryland is the general contractor on the project; Design Collective, Inc. of Baltimore , Maryland is the architect.
